`SRS' Continued from Page 1...
In a joint letter sent to House and Senate leaders, the group emphasized three important goals of
SRS:
• Active management and restoration of federal forests;
• Revenue sharing consistent with historic federal land management receipts with states,
counties and school districts; and
• Collaborative processes, such as the Resource Advisory Committees and community fire
planning.
Revenue from SRS helps fund wildfire mitigation, watershed restoration, and states' and rural
counties' ability to deliver public services to thousands of rural residents nationwide, including
nine million school children who receive vital public services.
If SRS is not reauthorized before 2012 schools and counties will be forced to terminate hundreds
of county employees; cancel teacher contracts; close libraries; and curtail or eliminate sheriff
patrols, rescue operations, mental health care services and substance abuse programs," the
letter stated. "Some counties and school districts have indicated they may be forced to file for
bankruptcy."
A copy of the letter is available on the Western Governors' Association website at
httl2: / /www.westgov.org /letters - testimony
`Logo Design' Continued from Page 1...
Theme:
The visual should be symbolic with a lighthouse /beacon near a wave or at the surf's edge
(conference in San Diego). It should reflect different aspects of "healthy" as in fiscally sound local
governments. Nautical references could be highlighted.
Contest Rules:
1. Make it simple, sharp and eye catching. Your design should be clear and match the
theme. Color use is welcome.
2. Send your ideas to rinman cacities.org by the deadline of Monday, Oct. 17 as an .eps,
.jpeg, .tif or .gif file.
3. One winning entry will be selected and be notified in early November.
4. The winner of the contest must agree to transfer copyright and trademark rights for the
logo to the League. The League will be the sole owner of the design.
The winner will receive:
• One complimentary Annual Conference Registration (value $700) for Sept. 5 -7, 2012 in
San Diego;
• One official conference shirt; and
• Original copies of all marketing materials used to promote the Annual Conference using
the logo.
Contact your city's graphic designer and encourage them to submit an entry. The deadline is
approaching quickly.
The winner of the 2011 Logo contest (Cities Standing Strong for Cities was Rjay Juarez, Intern,
Parks and Recreations Department, South San Francisco.
