( „`iP 4 1:411 d. ��"]'f'�r: ?4 "rLP1 <br />City Council Memorandum <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: AUGUST 9, 2011 <br />FROM: GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: 35 <br />WARDS: 1, 3 AND 4 <br />SUBJECT: SEIZING OUR DESTINY— BID NO. 6959— ENGINEERING AND INSTALLATION <br />OF 11 ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS <br />ISSUE: <br />The item for City Council consideration is award of Bid No. 6959 to Champion Electric Inc., of <br />Riverside, CA; for engineering services and installation of 11 electric vehicle charging stations at <br />seven City locations. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS <br />That the City Council: <br />1. Award Bid No. 6959 to Champion Electric Inc., of Riverside, CA; in the amount of $79,750 <br />for installation of 11 electric vehicle charging stations, and <br />2. Authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to execute the necessary documents. <br />BACKGROUND <br />In July 2010, the City contracted with Clean Fuel Connection, Inc., in coordination with the South <br />Coast Air Quality Management District, to develop an Electric Vehicle Readiness Program in <br />Riverside. The Readiness Program effort includes acceptance of 11 grant- funded electric vehicle <br />charging stations under the ChargePoint America Program (the Program) at no cost to the City. <br />The Program has been funded from the Department of Energy as part of the American <br />Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA). <br />The seven public locations where the charging stations will be installed include City Hall, <br />Corporation Yard, Municipal Airport, Parking Lot 33, Garage 3 (Cal Towers), Utilities Operations <br />Center, and Casa Blanca Family Learning Center. The installation of public electric vehicle <br />infrastructure is in alignment with Seizing Our Destiny Strategic Route 5 - Becoming a Green <br />Machine. <br />Bids for this project were solicited on May 15, 2011 and three bids were received electronically by <br />June 21, 2011. Champion Electric, Inc., of Riverside, CA; was the lowest responsive bidder. <br />35 -1 <br />
