FROM CENTRAL <br />AVE., EAST TO JURUPA AVE. AND ALONG MERRILL AVE. FROM <br />MAGNOLIA TO BROCKTON AVE. <br />ISSUE: <br />The issue for City Council consideration is to approve a temporary suspension of the City Sign <br />Code along Magnolia Avenue from Central Avenue east to Jurupa Avenue to allow businesses <br />adversely impacted by the road resurfacing and the Magnolia Grade Separation construction to <br />encourage new and repeat business during this period of transition and improvement. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS <br />That the City Council: <br />Authorize the temporary suspension of RMC 19.620.230 (Temporary Signs) during the <br />construction of Magnolia Avenue Grade Separation for all businesses in the area along <br />Magnolia Avenue bounded by Central Avenue to the West and Jurupa Avenue to the East <br />and the entire length of Merrill Avenue from Magnolia to Brockton Avenue; <br />2. Direct the Public Works Department and Community Development Department to provide <br />information to the impacted businesses regarding the temporary suspension of these <br />sections of the Riverside Municipal Code. <br />BACKGROUND <br />During the course of the construction of the Magnolia Avenue Grade Separation Project, many <br />businesses have expressed concerns regarding the impacts to their businesses, in particular <br />- Less vehicular and foot traffic <br />- Consumers are uncertain that businesses remain open <br />- Consumers question if establishments have altered their business hours <br />In an effort to assist these businesses, we must provide them the flexibility to display additional <br />"temporary" advertising that will let consumers know they are open during construction, advise them <br />23 -1 <br />
