COO OF <br />1V!I §IDI. <br />���, ,- !Arta Inn ;-aXion City Council Memorandum <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: July 26, 2011 <br />FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: 48 <br />WARDS: 3, 5, 6 and 7 <br />SUBJECT: BID NO. 6974 - 2010 -2011 ARTERIAL STREET REHABILITATION — CONTRACT <br />ISSUE <br />The issue for City Council consideration is award of a construction contract to rehabilitate the <br />pavement for the following locations: Central Avenue between Riverside Avenue and SR 91; Tyler <br />Street between Indiana Avenue and SR 91; and Pierce Street between Magnolia Avenue and SR <br />91. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />That the City Council award a construction contract for Bid No. 6974 - 2010 -2011 Arterial Street <br />Rehabilitation project to All American Asphalt, located in Corona, California, in the amount of <br />$659,431. <br />BACKGROUND <br />This project entails rehabilitation of existing pavement and removal and reconstruction of damaged <br />curb, gutter, sidewalk and other concrete improvements for the following locations: Central Avenue <br />between Riverside Avenue and SR -91 westbound (WB) on and off ramps; Tyler Street between <br />Indiana Avenue and SR -91 WB on and off ramps; and Pierce Street from Magnolia Avenue to <br />approximately 200 feet west of SR -91 WB on and off ramps (Attachment 1). <br />Moreover, as part of the City's ongoing effort to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) <br />requirements, the project will also provide for the repair and reconstruction of nine (9) non- <br />conforming wheelchair ramps at a cost of $19,950. <br />On July 12, 2011, eight (8) bids were received for the construction of this project (Attachment 2). <br />The lowest responsive bid is from All American Asphalt, in the amount of $659,431, which is <br />$110,072.75 or 14.3% below the Engineer's estimate. <br />The Purchasing Services Manager concurs with the recommendation above. <br />ie <br />
