Code Sections 23712- 13 -14, 34459- 60 - 0 5 1) <br />Dear Sir or Madam, as the case may be: <br />When a city or county charter proposal, amendment, or repeal is <br />approved by the voters, it is submitted to the Secretary of Sate, <br />pursuant to Govt. Code Sections 23712- 13 -14, 34459- 60 -61. The <br />Secretary of State's Office then determines if the submission is <br />"fileable" (i.e., meets the requirements stated in Govt. Code <br />Section 34460 (a), (b), and (c)) and if it is, files it and <br />notifies the city or county of the Charter Chapter Number and date <br />of filing. We are also responsible for sending a copy of the <br />actual charter adoption, amendment, repeal to the Legislative <br />Counsel's Office, which has the responsibility of publishing it in <br />the statutes. <br />The final text will be published in the statutes exactly the way <br />they are submitted to the Secretary of State for filing. we will <br />add only the Charter Chapter Number and filing date before sending <br />it along to the Legislative Counsel for publication, and returning <br />a copy to you. You may leave blank spaces in the appropriate <br />areas for us to do so. For example, "Charter Chapter ", <br />"Filed with the Secretary of State and we will fill in the <br />blanks. <br />Attached are copies of city and county charter amendments <br />published in the statutes to show you the way they should be <br />presented. The texts should be submitted on a separate piece of <br />paper from your correspondence, certification and authentication, <br />certified copies of arguments, certified copies of all <br />pulications and notices required by your city or county, and the <br />certified abstract of the vote at which the text was approved by <br />
