1 ORDINANCE NO. 6479 2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING TITLE 1 OF THE RIVERSIDE MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING CHAPTER 1.17 3 PROVIDING FOR ADMINISTRATIVE CODE ENFORCEMENT REMEDIES. 4 WHEREAS, The City of Riverside City Council finds that the enforcement of the 5 Riverside Municipal Code ("Municipal Code") and applicable state codes throughout the City is an 6 important public service; and 7 WHEREAS, Enforcement of the Municipal Code is vital to the protection of the public's 8 health, safety and quality of life; and 9 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Riverside recognizes that successful code 10 enforcement starts with the drafting of precise regulations that can be effectively applied in 11 administrative enforcement hearings and judicial proceedings; and 12 WHEREAS a comprehensive code enforcement system that uses a combination of 13 judicial and administrative remedies is critical to gain compliance with code regulations; and 14 WHEREAS, there is a need for additional methods of code enforcement for violations of 15 the Municipal Code to supplement existing code enforcement tools; and 16 WHEREAS, the assessment of administrative citations and civil penalties through an 17 administrative hearing procedure for code violations is a necessary alternate method of code 18 enforcement; and 19 WHEREAS, there is a need to establish uniform procedures for administrative 20 enforcement hearings conducted pursuant to the Municipal Code. 21 NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Riverside, California, does ordain 22 as follows: 23 Section 1: Title 1 of the Riverside Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding 24 Chapter 1.17, Administrative Code Enforcement Remedies, to read as follows: 25 Sections: GENERAL 26 1.17.005 Statement of Purpose and Intent 27 1.17.010 Definitions City Attorney's Office 3900 Main Street Riverside, CA 92522 (909) 782-5567
