• ARGUMENT IN FAVOR OF MEASURE V
Vote YES on V! Create jobs and stimulate our local economy, WITHOUT taxing Riverside's residents
or property owners
Measure V is a HOTEL TAX PAID ONLY BY HOTEL VISITORS when they spend the night locally.
Riverside residents and property owners are NOT taxed `
Our City has been fiscally responsible! But to balance the State budget, Sacramento politicians have
taken millions from Riverside — money that was to be used for creating local jobs and stimulating
economic growth. The State has taken $65 Million from our community — most recently $17 Million
this Spring, and will only continue its money grabs. i F
The Riverside Police Officers Association, Riverside City Firefighters Association, Chamber of
Commerce and Riverside hoteliers support YES on V because it provides funding to protect and
maintain our essential services and quality of life — WITHOUT RAISING YOUR TAXES Y
YES on V supports essential services such as 9 -1 -1 response, police and fire protection, youth
programs, senior services, libraries and parks.
YES on V provides funding to market our City, attract tourism, and upgrade the convention center,
bringing more out -of -town dollars into Riverside.
YES on V stimulates Riverside's economy during the toughest environment in generations.
YES on V gives you LOCAL CONTROL. By law, every penny is required to stay here and can't be
taken by Sacramento. n
Like many other California cities, since 1966 Riverside has had an existing hotel tax. By increasing
the cost of a hotel room just 2% for hotel visitors, YES on V provides needed revenue to keep
Riverside on the right track, market and attract more visitors, and maintain and improve our public
safety, park, library, senior and youth services. b
Measure V includes fiscal accountability, with all funds subject to publicly available, annual,
independent audits of city funds and expenditures.
For information about Measure V, visit www.riversideca.gov
/s/ Councilmember and Small Business Owner, Paul Davis R EC F I VED
Councilmember Nancy Hart
Councilmember Mike Gardner AUG 1 3 2010
City ^!erk's Office
