Police and Fire Employees. <br /> Oppose <br /> Hearing: Monday, May 24, Senate Appropriations Committee <br /> Please Contact Your Senator and Request a NO Vote <br /> <br />What the Bill Does: Mandates a system of compulsory and binding arbitration for the resolution of <br />collective bargaining disputes/impasse for police and fire employees. <br /> <br />Reasons for the League's Position: The decisions over police and fire budgets should rest with the city <br />council and not an outside arbitrator with no accountability to the taxpayers. <br /> <br />Background: Once again, the author was asked and he agreed to put SB 402 over for a later hearing on <br />May 24. This gives the Committee the opportunity to review the author's amendments that were first <br />presented at the Monday, May 17 hearing. The amendments do nothing to address the concerns of local <br />government. See past Bulletins for more background.
