1 City Council Memorandum <br />TO: <br />FROM: <br />SUBJECT: <br />ISSUE: <br />HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />DATE: July 14, 2009 <br />ITEM NO: 45 <br />WARD: All <br />ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION FROM WAL-MART FOUNDATION SAFE <br />NEIGHBORHOOD HEROES PROGRAM - SUPPLEMENTAL <br />APPROPRIATION <br />The issue before the City Council is whether to accept a donation in the amount of $1,000 from <br />the Wal-Mart Foundation Safe Neighborhood Heroes Program. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />That the City Council: <br />1. Authorize the acceptance of a $1,000 donation from the Wal-Mart Foundation's Safe <br />Neighborhood Heroes Program; and <br />2. Authorize a $1,000 increase in estimated revenues in account number 0000101-374200 <br />(Miscellaneous Receipts) and increase appropriation in the same amount to account <br />number 3500000-426800 (Special Departmental Supplies). <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Through its "Good Works" community involvement program, the Wal-Mart Foundation provides Safe <br />Neighborhood Heroes funds to communities throughout the nation. The purpose of the program is <br />to help emergency response agencies obtain needed items or to begin programs promoting a safer <br />community. <br />Each year, Wal-Mart stores, Sam's Club or Distribution Centers select local emergency response <br />agencies to receive donations through this program. The City of Riverside Fire Department has <br />been selected by the Canyon Springs Wal-Mart Store #1899 as a recipient this year. In accordance <br />with the program's intended purpose, the $1,000 will be spent on printed educational materials <br />promoting safety. <br />45-1 <br />
