(CSCRC) from July 1, 2009 <br />through June 30, 2011. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS <br />That the City Council: <br />1. Approve the Agreement for Shopping Cart Retrieval Services with CSCRC in an amount not <br />to exceed $380,000 from July 1, 2009, through June 30, 2011; <br />2. Authorize City Manager, or his designee, to execute the necessary contract documents; and <br />3. Authorize the Purchasing Services Manager to issue an annual purchase order for this <br />requirement. <br />BACKGROUND <br />An ordinance amending Chapter 9.58 of the Riverside Municipal Code (RMC) relating to the <br />retrieval, impound and disposal of lost, stolen or abandoned shopping carts was adopted by the City <br />Council on September 6, 2005. Chapter 9.58 of the RMC requires businesses which own, rent, <br />lease or otherwise possess their own carts to either: <br />1. Submit to the City a plan to prevent customers from removing carts from the business <br />premises (RMC Section 9.58.060) including delineation of specific physical measures to <br />prevent cart removal from the business premises (disabling devices on carts, posting of a <br />security guard, etc.); or <br />2. Contract with the City for retrieval of abandoned carts (RMC Section 9.58.120). <br />55-1 <br />
