Neighborhood Watch Academy
Neighborhood Watch – the added eyes, ears and awareness on our city streets – is critically important to reducing crime and improving quality of life in each of our neighborhoods. “Safety and security are everyone’s concerns,” said RPD Community Policing Lieutenant Tim Bacon. “The Neighborhood Watch Academy will provide exciting and useful tools for new block captains and their volunteers.”
The academy is presented in eight 3-hour weekly sessions, that will provide participants a more in-depth and interactive training experience. The training is designed to empower participants to effectively use crime prevention methods to reduce the opportunity of crime and to be leaders in their community. Space is limited, so register early.
Crime-Free Multi-Housing Academy
The Riverside Crime Free Multi-Housing Program is designed to help residents, owners, managers and anyone else associated with rental properties keep drugs and other illegal activity off their property. This eight hour seminar is the first phase of the program's certification process, where property owners, managers, maintenance staff and residents will learn about applicant screening, active management, becoming pro-active managers, strenghtening rental agreements, safety awareness, warning signs of illegal activity and legal issues.
Protecting Our Kids Online Training
Cyber social networking sites create new twists parents should know about. This workshop is designed to acquaint parents with the good and bad uses, the potential and the problems, associated with cyber social networking web sites so popular with teens and pre-teens.
Advanced Crime Free Training
This course is designed for currently certified rental properties' management and serves to up-date management on a variety of issues, i.e. legal, gang and narcotics. This course is required to be completed every year to maintain the property's Crime Free Multi-Housing certification.
Citizen's Academy
The Riverside Police Department's Citizen Academy is designed to provide community members with an inside look at their police department. The 10-week course will give citizens an overview of the department's function and operational methods. It will provide insight on how police officers and police personnel perform their duties. One of the goals of the Citizen Academy is to promote community volunteerism. Students will be encouraged to become involved in community partnership and volunteer programs. |
